- For question #2, please outline in detail how your new post addressed the three main objectives as discussed in class. (9 Marks)
As discussed in class the three main objectives that I included in my rewritten post incorporating Plain English writing for the web was:
1. Find what they need
2. Understand it
3. Use it to fulfill their purpose.
For the first objective of “Find what they need” I incorporated the objective in the first paragraph of my post which was the “welcome” paragraph. I did this by providing the reader with what they were most likely initially searching for when they came across my website such as who we are, what we do, and what we provide. By providing the reader with key information in the first paragraph such as listing the services that we provide it makes it clear to the reader what they can find if they continue through our website. Along with the first paragraph if the reader is intrigued by it the second paragraph of my post lets the reader know in more detail what we would be offering to them and their needs. For the second objective of “understand it” I incorporated the use of plain English throughout my entire post to ensure that the text is written in a clear, concise and straightforward way. Throughout my post, I avoided “jargon” and complex terms that are related to digital marketing that the average person would not comprehend. Along with plain English, I used the element of active voice and the use of “we” so the reader knows that we are communicating with them. The use of active voice also makes the content easier to read and much more engaging to the reader. Finally, the third objective of “use it to fulfill their purpose” was included at the end of my post. The last paragraph of my post provides the reader with a call to action. My call to action encourages the reader to “call us today to schedule a consultation” which makes it clear to the reader that my digital agency is here to help businesses succeed in the digital world. Providing an easy way for the reader to take action it fulfills their purpose of visiting my website with the tools they need to take the next step and grow their business digital presence.
